On May 27, 2020, the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program announced a new $2.7M project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense to test AI-driven spectrum sharing optimization in a 5G-NR network. Dr. Thyaga Nandagopal, Deputy Division Director (DDD) for the Division of Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) at the National Science Foundation, spoke with US Ignite’s Mari Silbey at the 5GX Connect Summit on the project’s aims and the capability of PAWR testbed sites to enable new research into advanced communications network technologies.
