POWDER Introduces New High-Performance RF Frontend
POWDER has announced the availability of its first v1.1 RF frontends! The two new RF frontends are connected to N310 SDRs. Combined with the appropriate software, this SDR/frontend combination provides 5G/NextG capabilities, and, because the frontends are connected to SDRs, also enable the use of non-5G waveforms. The v1.1 RF frontends provide peak power of about +33 dBm with a CW maximum power of +30 dBm. This amounts to a 12 – 15 dB improvement in transmit power compared to a standalone SDR.
Additionally, the RF frontends provide filtering to the 3.3 – 3.7 GHz band. POWDER coexists with many commercial carriers operating at high power in bands above and below 3.3 – 3.7 GHz. Filters help reduce noise in this real-world setting.
The new RF frontends also provides a hardware feature to provide measurements of the transmit power and a loopback path to put an attenuated version of the transmitted signal into the receiver. In future this feature will be used to provide in-situ transmitter and receiver calibration.
